The mind-body connection

The mind-body connection

If you’re thinking about trying for a baby or already in the process of doing so you might find it helpful to be reminded how closely our mind and our bodies are linked… Having a strong mind-body connection and good emotional well-being can really influence your chances of conceiving.

So sit back, relax and read on….

To start with, you’ll need to explore the following:

         How are you currently feeling?

         Do you have any fears?

How can you turn these fears around?

Once you’ve thought about each of these points it’s time to make an action plan which consists of:

Positive Affirmations

These are carefully worded, personal, positive statements that you repeat and must be in the present tense. Start by listing all your negative thoughts about pregnancy, like “What if I can't conceive?”, and then turn them into positive ones, “I am healthy and ready for a baby!”. Make these statements your new mantras: write them down, say them out loud in the morning and before bed.

Visualisation Techniques

Yoga and meditation are great ways to practice visualisation, or you can even do it whilst soaking in a hot bath at the end of the day, as the end goal is stress reduction.  Try to do this for around 15 or 20 minutes every day.

Keep a Diary

Some people really like keeping diaries and others don’t, but keeping a diary is a good way to let your thoughts and emotions out… there is no need to share it with anyone unless you want to, or even to read it again but ‘better out than in’ couldn’t be truer.

Do Something You Enjoy

Take enjoyment from the smallest things in your day and really savor them!  Whether it’s meeting a friend for a coffee, basking in some sunshine at lunchtime or cooking your favourite dinner, by being present for these things you’ll certainly feel happier!

Exercise

Doing some form of exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. Whether it’s walking, running or something totally different, exercise releases the endorphins needed to maintain a positive state of mind.

It goes without saying that this is not a guarantee for fertility or getting pregnant. We are not belittling the cases in which people can't get pregnant, we just want to remind all our beautiful readers of the connection between mind and body! And ps - this is worth remembering for all other aspects of your life too!
