April's WOTM

Every month we will be sharing with you a new workout to help inspire you how best to exercise at home! It goes without saying that only you can know how ready you are to starting exercising again, and if you have any concerns, it is important to consult a professional.

This month’s WOTM (workout of the month) is a predominantly lower body HIIT, which will be all done and dusted within 20mins!

The plan is to do each exercise for 30 seconds, rest for 15 seconds and then move on to the next exercise in the sequence. Remember to push yourself as hard as you can for the full 30 seconds to get the full benefit of a HIIT workout.

Once you’ve done all four exercises (that’s one complete circuit), rest then for 75 seconds and then repeat the whole circuit four times.

  1. Burpees – begin in a standing position then drop your hands to the floor in between your feet, bending your knees to a squat position. Next jump your feet back so you are now in a plank position. Immediately jump your feet back to your hands and finally jump up to the starting position

  2. Jumping lunges – begin in a standard lunge position with your right leg forward. Engage your core and explosively jump up landing again in a lunge but now with your left leg forward (therefore switching your legs in the air!) Continue for the full 30 seconds, without rest!

  3. Mountain climbers – assume a press up position so that your hands are under your shoulders with straight arms. Your body should form a straight line from your shoulders to your ankles. Lift your right foot off the floor and raise your knee as close to your chest as you can. Return to the starting position and do the same with your left leg. This is one rep and aim to do as many as you can, as fast as you can, for the 30 second intervals.

  4. Squat jumps – stand with feet shoulder-width apart and start by doing a regular squat, then engage your core and jump up explosively to land back in a squat position to complete one rep, aiming to land as quietly as possible.
